As the world rapidly transitions toward cleaner and more sustainable energy, electric trucks are emerging as a promising solution for the freight transport industry. Beyond being a global trend, electric trucks deliver tangible economic, environmental, and operational benefits. Thanks to these advantages, they have gained growing attention and recognition from the international community.

Road transport remains the backbone of the freight transport industry in many countries. However, with increasing demands for energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact, developing green logistics solutions has become a top priority across nations. The shift toward greener, cleaner, and smarter transport is now a guiding principle in sustainable economic policies worldwide — including in Vietnam.

According to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), global sales of electric trucks surged by 80% in 2024, accounting for nearly 2% of the total truck market. Once again, China leads the way, with electric trucks representing 10% of the country’s total heavy-duty truck sales last year. Notably, some electric truck models in China now offer lower operating costs than traditional diesel vehicles, even though their initial purchase prices remain higher.

Embracing the wave of globalization and the rising demand for sustainable transport, SINOTRUK – one of China’s leading truck manufacturers – has taken the lead in developing a new generation of electric trucks. These vehicles are equipped with advanced battery technology and key components from world-class suppliers, including CATL batteries, Topgear Transmission gearboxes, and high-performance electric motor systems.

SINOTRUK’s electric truck lineup is designed for powerful performance, exceptional durability, and flexible operations, catering to both urban logistics and intercity transport needs, depending on battery configuration and load capacity. The vehicles feature a modern design optimized for logistics operations, along with a range of cutting-edge safety technologies. Their battery systems support fast charging and battery swapping, minimizing downtime and reducing maintenance and operating costs. With lower service frequency, longer warranty periods, and greater cost efficiency, electric trucks are emerging as an ideal solution for logistics companies amid rising fuel prices and stricter emission standards.

A strong testament to SINOTRUK’s technological progress and commitment to sustainability is its deployment of electric vehicles at modern logistics hubs such as Tianjin Port (China), where automated cranes and unmanned electric fleets are already in use. Among these, the Howo T5G Level 4 autonomous electric truck – the world’s first fully driverless heavy-duty electric truck – has entered trial operations, marking a breakthrough in green transport technology. Building on that success, SINOTRUK introduced the Howo T7H – the first-generation smart truck, paving the way for the future of automated, low-emission heavy transport.

In Vietnam, the shift toward green transportation in the road freight sector has become an essential trend. Policies promoting the development of electric vehicles and related infrastructure are being actively implemented. The logistics and freight industry has begun its green transition by adopting eco-friendly fuels, solar-powered warehouses, and energy-efficient systems to minimize emissions.

Catching up with this global trend, Vietnam Machinery Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (VIMID – stock code: VVS) has taken the lead in introducing a range of environmentally friendly and efficient trucks suited to the Vietnamese market — including the TS7, V7X, TH7, T7H, NX, MAX, and TX models. These vehicles are equipped with Euro 5-standard engines, offering better fuel efficiency, lower operating costs, and reduced environmental impact.

Recognizing the vital role of the transport industry in achieving Vietnam’s commitment to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as pledged at COP26, VIMID has built its 2020–2030 development strategy around green and sustainable growth. The company focuses on researching, developing, and implementing green transport solutions that help accelerate energy transition, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and support the nation’s overall green growth agenda.

Mr. Kieu Anh Dao, CEO of VIMID, shared: “In the near future, VIMID will officially introduce an electric tractor truck line to the Vietnamese market — a major milestone in our journey toward green logistics. At the same time, we are working closely with leading logistics enterprises to build a modern, sustainable transport ecosystem.”

The green transition in transportation is opening up a promising path for future growth. As the green economy continues to take shape, this is a pivotal moment for enterprises to restructure their strategies, adapt to new trends, and seize opportunities for sustainable expansion.
